Niacinamide

Also called Vitamin B3, Nicotinamide.

poresoil-controluneven-tonebarrier
Short answerNiacinamide is a stable form of vitamin B3 that helps even skin tone, reduce the look of pores, and support the skin barrier with daily use.

Benefits

  • Helps visibly even skin tone and fade the look of dark spots
  • Supports a stronger moisture barrier by boosting ceramide production
  • Can reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and excess oil
  • Plays well with most other actives, including retinoids and vitamin C

How to use

Apply a water-based niacinamide serum after cleansing and before moisturizer, morning and night. Follow with sunscreen in the daytime.

Concentration

2–10% in leave-on serums is typical; 5% is a common sweet spot for daily use.

Cautions

  • High percentages can sting on compromised or very dry skin
  • Patch test if you have a history of niacinamide sensitivity
  • Stop use and see a clinician if persistent redness or irritation occurs

Niacinamide (nicotinamide) is the amide form of vitamin B3. In skincare it is valued because it is water-soluble, relatively stable in formulas, and well studied for barrier support and the look of pores and uneven tone.

It is not an exfoliating acid. Results tend to show with consistent use over several weeks rather than overnight peeling. Pair it with a moisturizer and daily SPF; it does not replace sunscreen.
