What is niacinamide?
Short answerNiacinamide is vitamin B3 used in serums and moisturizers to support the skin barrier, even tone, and the look of pores.
Who it is for
Niacinamide is a reasonable first active if you want something gentler than a strong acid or retinoid. People concerned with oiliness, the look of pores, or blotchy tone often start here.
How to add it to a routine
- Cleanse.
- Apply a niacinamide serum to damp skin.
- Moisturize.
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen in the morning.
You can use it with hyaluronic acid, peptides, retinoids, and most vitamin C formulas. If a high-strength product stings, drop to a lower percentage or use it every other night.
What it is not
It is not a chemical peel, not a treatment for diagnosed skin disease, and not a substitute for medical care. Ingredient pages in this knowledge base explain the research-backed uses in cosmetic products.
